Landlocked in Eastern Europe, Belarus is renowned for its stunning strongholds, rustic forests, and Stalinist architecture. In Minsk, the modern capital, the magnificent KGB Headquarters overlook Independence Square, and the Museum of the Great Patriotic War honors the country's involvement in World War II. Numerous places of worship are also located in the city, including the neo-Romanesque Church of Saints Simon and Helena. Belarus is home to 11,000 lakes and several streams. Three notable streams—the Neman, the Pripyat, and the Dnieper—cross the country. The Neman flows westward into the Baltic Sea, whereas the Pripyat flows eastward into the Dnieper, which flows southward into the Black Sea.
